Health & Safety

It is the policy of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation to safeguard the health and safety of its employees, contractors and other persons affected by our operations.

We believe the prevention of incidents, accidents and ill health paramount to the efficient conduct of our operations. Therefore, Health and Safety issues are given the utmost priority on our drive to ensure operational efficiency by implementing the following:

Pan Ocean continues to promote staff H & S competences for the safe and effective discharge of their responsibilities at the workplace.

Pan Ocean supports contractor’s effort in achieving the same goal while aligning their health and safety management system to that of the Corporation

Pan Ocean conducts the risk assessment, H & S audits, inspections, incident reporting and other safety related programs when required to facilitate the identification, mitigation and elimination of hazards and unsafe acts at the work place.

In addition, responsibility for compliance with Pan Ocean’s H & S regulations resides with the line managers who are accountable for safety in their various assets including the entire staff, contractors and all visitors who enter our facilities. Everyone is held accountable for safety in the corporation.

Corporate H & S objectives and goals are set and benchmarked against our yearly H & S performance in an effort to promote a culture of continuous improvement.

ENVIRONMENT

Care of our environment is of great importance to us. Prior to the commencement of work at a new industrial site, a baseline study is conducted. In addition, we conduct environmental and social impact assessments that measure and analyze actual and potential impact, positive and negative, direct, indirect or cumulative, in the short, medium and long term of the project.

Following the commencement of work at the site, continuous monitoring of the environmental and social impact is an integral part of our work plans. We work with our partners to ensure that we exceed all regulatory requirements.

Host communities

We strive to maintain a healthy balance between our host communities and our operations by treating the communities as an extension of our business, giving the communities a sense of belonging as stakeholders in our business and operations. Pan Ocean is committed to maintaining cordial relationships in its communities of operation. We strive to maintain a healthy balance between our host communities and our operations.

We actively engage the community youths in gainful employment and empower them through various skill acquisition and adult literacy programs. We have many beneficiaries from our scholarship awards, computer literacy programs, fish farming, and tailoring programs. We have also constructed several kilometers of access roads, provided potable water schemes and constructed and equipped a clinic (Ovade Clinic) for our host communities. In education, classroom blocks have been constructed and science labs furnished and equipped with standard equipment. Pan Ocean also supports the local culture of the indigenes by constructing various town halls and actively participating in their various cultural festivals.

We regard our support for community groups and funding of multitude of non-profit organizations that provide needed services and enrich society as a privilege. Helping to ensure that young Nigerians are equipped, prepared and encouraged to embrace self-improvement and self worth is a priority. Pan Ocean Oil Corporation (Nigeria) Ltd. has experienced rapid growth since its inception in 1973.

Since the ratification of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) has been the backbone of our community engagement.
